OVERSEAS TRADING

SYDNEY B. dominated a firm stock market when the shares rose 110 c .to reach a new peak of 2280 c on the Sydney Stock Exchange on Wednesday. The previous peak in the stock was reached last Monday The shares opened at 2180 c and by 1 p.m. had put on a further 40c to 2220 c. In the last three-quarters of an hour of trading the shares rose 60c to 2280 c. In the mining section highs were also reached by C.R.A., Hamersley and Mount Isa. C. put on 30c to 1490 c after reaching a record 1500 c. Hamersley opened strongly in the morning and went to a new high of 1130 c. This was a gain of 50c on Tuesday’s last sale. Mount Isa was another miner to stand out. The shares put on 44c to reach an all time high of 704 c. Western Mining Corporation was also in demand with the shares putting on 70c to 980 c. The all ordinary index gained 10.99 to 525.55 while the industrial index gained 8.23 to reach a new peak of 431.99.

MELBOURNE B.H.P. dominated trading on the Melbourne Stock Exchange and more than »lm worth of shares changed hands by lunchtime. Sales ranged 2190 c to 2280 c, and closed 120 c higher at 2270 c. Peko up «0c to 1060 c was a notable move while other industrials moved narrowly. Copper producer. Mt Isa, now in the nickel search, closed up 50c at its peak 710 c.

New Broken Hill up 130 c to 1100 c, Hammersley. up »0c at 1160 c. and Cons Gold up 80c to 700 c led solid gains which covered practically the whole minings list. Oils were firm.
