Understudy Fit
‘‘The Press” Special Service wanganui: Understudy, freshened since her exertions on the Taranaki autumn circuit, looked in the right order to race prominently in the Waverley Racing Club’s Wairoa Handicap tomorrow when she galloped at Wanganui yesterday. Trials were held 35 feet out on the No. 1 grass, where the track was soft.
Understudy (Gillett) was given an easy assignment, galloping three furlongs in 44 3-ssec. The former Wanganui apprentice, R. T. Cleaver will travel south from Takanini to take the mount.
Conspirator is a doubtful runner in the Wairoa Handicap, and Roley is not expected to start in the Besley Memorial. With soft tracks now a regular feature on the lower North Island circuit, Roley has been turned out. for a winter spell.
There is no certainty that Dunraven will begin Jiis 1968 winter campaign in the Wairoa Handicap at Waverley. The Resurgent horse is also nominated for Marton next Tuesday, being more favourably weighted with 8-8 on a lower minimum than the one at Waverley.
if Dunraven starts at Waverley, R. W. Taylor, who has a good record on the chestnut, is expected to have the mount.
