AN EGG FOR EASTER
(By
WHIM WHAM)
Well, Some have wished each other Happy Easters, And Some have been too bothered or too slow, And Some have ‘gone Away’,—habitual Feasters, — And Some have neither Time nor Means to go. Let it be Easter, neither More nor Less,— I wouldn’t know about the Happiness.
A Gale has wrecked the Garden,—and done Worse. HI Winds blow Good to No-one, Harm to Many. The Times are out of Gear, except Reverse. I wouldn’t offer one pre-decimal Penny For your Thoughts, Sir, or price my Own so high. Easter’s the Name we know the Season by.
We have our Egg, the American his Bunny, His Wife her Bonnet for the ancient Feast. In many a troubled City, wet or sunny, Joy’s going to be restrained, to say the Least. Glad Feast or Solemn Season, here it comes To the proud Avenues, the Harlem Slums.
And still the Politician will provide Non-answers to Non-questions, Clap for Trap, Subdued a Little by this Eastertide, But VERY little humbled by the Gap That yawns between the Claptrap and the Truth,— We cared about the Latter, in our Youth.
If Anyone says CYNIC V Sir, he’ll get My seasonal Egg, not fresh by any Means, Right in his silly Face! When I’m upset I’m violent, I don’t stick at making Scenes. Keep Easter as You will, it’s your Affair. Make It as happy as You can, or dare.
