AERODYNAMIC SALOON
r |"HE saloon shown above has been built by the Italian Pininfarina firm using B.M.C. mechanical parts. The result, says Pininfarina, is a fourdoor. four-seater which has excellent aerodynamic properties. The car itself is not just
a "show special,” but a practical vehicle which could be built in large numbers, the company says. The car. which has not been given a name, has a transverse front engine and front-wheel-drive. The spare
wheel is housed in front of the engine, both to give more luggage space and to provide a “shock absorber” in frontal crashes. The side-windows are elec-trically-controlled, and the comprehensive ventilation
system includes air extractors behind the rear door. Inside the car, the instruments are recessed into the anti-dazzle and resilient material of the dash. All the controls for wipers, lights and so on have been incorporated in levers on the collapsible steering column. All the car’s interior surfaces are padded for safety,’ and all the door handles are recessed. The radio is recessed in a collapsible panel. Both front and rear seats are anatomically shaped, and can be adjusted for heigh):, reach and lean. The rear seats, also have padded headrests.
