Hamua Picked At Wairarapa

Hamua is likely to regain winning form at Tauherenikau on Saturday in the Queen Elizabeth Handicap. With only 7-7, the Stunning gelding stands out in the first leg of the Wairarapa Racing Club’s T.A.B. double.
The last time Hamua raced at Tauherenikau, at the New Year meeting, he led all the way. His wins since have included the Douro Hack Cup at Trentham. Last time out Hamua went very close and, had his rider, W. D. Skelton, been able to use the whip properly in the straight, he probably would have beaten Watchet to maintain his winning sequence.
The state of the track could decide Hamua’s main rivals. On fairly dry ground Gold Mint could test the favourite. His latest races have suggested that he is on the verge of winning form.
On softer going Watchet would be hard to beat again, for he handles this type of footing in accomplished style. The rain this week will assist Archimedes in his first run after a spell. He has not appeared since January 2, but he has raced well fresh before and his class would be a big factor in the Martinborough Handicap. The top-weight, Sacimo, is an obvious rival and Jane Blithe would be dangerous if she raced here instead of Ellerslie.
Of the others none appeals more than Kintyre, which has performed well on all types of ground. Selections:
