WELLINGTON, April 10.
A 33-year-old civil servant was sentenced to six months inionsonment when he appeared in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court today on a charge which Mr R. D. Jamieson, S.M., said was usually loosely described as embezzlement.
The accused was Michael Grosvenor Dunne, who appeared for sentence on a charge that between January 17 and March 19, with intent to defraud by falsely representing that he had incurred expense allowances amounting to $825.45 while travelling on behalf of the Civil Aviation Department, obtained from that department $825.45. The Magistrate said that after Dunne had served the prison term he would be released on 12 months probation under the special condition that he must work and reside where directed. Restitution of the $825.45, by instalments, was ordered.
