MR A. L. WOOD Mr A. L. Wood, advertising production manager of “The Press,” who died yesterday, began his career in newspaper advertising on the “Christchurch Sun" and was with the newspaper from its inception in 1914 until it ceased publication in June, 1935. At that time he was advertising manager.
From Christchurch, Mr Wood went to the advertising staff of the “Otago Daily Times,” Dunedin, where he worked until 1945. With Mr F. Hinton he became joint proprietor of the “Westport News” and managed the newspaper until it was sold to the "Nelson Evening Mail” company in 1961. Mr Wood was then on the advertising staff of “The Press” until his death, and with his wide experience of advertising acted in a consultant capacity on the production side of the business. Educated at Christchurch Boys’ High School, Mr Wood was a good Rugby player and tennis player. He was champion of the Linwood Tennis Club and reached the top dozen on the Canterbury ranking list in the early 19305. Mr Wood is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
