Watersiders’ Union
Mr E. L. Threadwell was yesterday re-elected president of the Lyttelton Waterside Workers’ Union for the fifteenth successive year. Mr M. J. Hollander was elected secretary. He replaced Mr R. Fergus, who did not seek re-election as secretary. Mr Fergus was elected assistant secretary.
Other officials elected were, vice-president, Mr R. Wasley; walking delegate, Mr F. Sage; executive committee, Messrs S. Wasley, W. Thomas, B. Gulllvan, R. Quince, H. Cliftton and A. A Watkins. Mr Sage’s election as walking delegate was the result of a second ballot between Mr Sage and Mr J. Hughes. Mr Sage had been the sitting walking delegate and Mr Hughes was a past walking delegate. The Lyttelton Waterside Workers’ Union is one of the three strongest unions in Canterbury.
