10 Marist Teams
Ashburton faces an invasion of Rugby players over the Easter holiday when Celtic (Ashburton) is host in the annual Marist tournament, for the South Island Catholic Clubs’ Shield and the Geoff Laing Memorial Trophy. Ten clubs will be competing—Marist (Blenheim), Celtic (Nelson), Marist (Greymouth), St Mary’s (Hokitika), Marist (Christchurch), Celtic (Timaru),' Dimedin R.F.C, St Marys (Gore) and Celtic (Ashburton). The highlight of the weekend will be the charity match on Sunday between a South Island Marist XV and the Cantabrians. The proceeds from this game will be given to the St John Ambulance Brigade.
The Cantabrians will field a very strong team, including the All Blacks, W. F. McCormick, A. G. Steel, D. A. .Arnold, B. A. Watt and J. N. ’ Creighton.
