High Poll In E. Germany

(N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)

EAST BERLIN, April 7. East Germans have voted massively in favour of a new constitution which officially defines their country as a Communist State. The East German news agency A.D.N. said today that 11,536,265 out of a total electorate of 12 million—nearly 95 per cent—had voted “yes” to the new Constitution, against 409,329 “no” votes. Results of the voting—still to be officially confirmed—show that 98.10 per cent of the electorate went to the polls yesterday to give expected mass approval for the new Constitution which defines East Germany as “the Socialist State of the German nation”.
