Even sowing of large seeds can be speeded up by gluing them to the roll type toilet paper. Preparation* can be made in advance and all that it is necessary to do subsequently is to open a furrow in the soil to the required depth, lay down the paper and cover it up. In this way very rapid and even sowing is accomplished in one operation. The paper does not impede germination and soon rots away. It is even possible to add fertiliser in a band in the same way. ♦ • • Still on the subject of seed sowing empty egg shells can serve as initial pot* to hold germinating seed. • • ♦ Quantity estimation often presents problem*, to here is a rough guide for calculating requirements of some materials: 1} cubic yards of soil will cover 100 square yards of ground to a depth of ) an Inch and one cubic yard of compost is sufficient to prepare approximately 190 standard 14” x 8i” x 3” (Internal measurements) seed trays. On a comparative basis per cubic yard dry peat weighs about 7) cwt, dry sand 22 ewt., loose medium soil 1 ton and rotted manure 12 cwt
