Weenell Injured
"The Press** Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. The brilliant filly, Weenell, is responding to treatment for a sprained joint, but she will miss the Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes tomorrow. Her trainer, S. A. Brown, has high hopes that she will still be able to travel north to Ellerslie for the Champagne Stakes and the Wills Stakes at the A.R.C. Easter meeting. After a brilliant gallop on Tuesday, Weenell took fright when a heavy vehicle unloaded earth near her paddock. She careered round and slipped into the fence. The unbeaten filly twisted her near fetlock joint, which was swollen yesterday morning. She was given two rounds of jogging on the plough, after which she was ouite cool and sound. Brown will lease her for a few more days before stepping up her Ellerslie preparation. Min Flicka, engaged in the Manawatu Mile, galloped attractively for the race when she led Ribbon and Colorado Boy past the post after six furlongs in Imin 14 4-ssec, the final three in 38sec.
