OLDEST WOOL CATALOGUE
Successful Search By London Coy
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU.
A catalogue, dated July 13, 1899, which contained details of wool shipped by the late Mr George Murray, prominent Mackenzie Country runholder, was found by his grandson, Mr A. T. Murray, of Maryburn Station, Lake Tekapo. The search for the earliest catalogue possible for a London auction of New Zealand wool was organised by London Woolbrokers (N.Z-), Ltd, and the announcement of Mr Murray's find—which means a trip to Great Britain for himself and his wife—was made by the company’s South Canterbury representative (Mr C. R. Grant, of Tlmaru). The first known sale of Dominion wool was on June 12, 1847. Mr Murray’s brother (Mr M. G. H. Murray, of The Wolds, Lake Tekapo) unearthed the second- oldest catalogue. This was dated in 1909, and also contained details of wool shipped by his grandfather.
