LEAGUE PROFIT
Although the income and | expenditure account showed ! a loss of $755.97, the Can- : terbury Rugby League made a profit of $813.27 in 1967, according to the leport and balance-sheet to be presented to the annual meeting tomorrow evening. Profits of 8855 from the: property account and 5714.24 from investments off-set the income and expenditure loss. None of the four away matches, against Auckland, Waikato, West Coast and Otago, nor the .under-17 and under-19 tournaments showed a profit. The usual loss on the two-match, Auckland and Waikato. tour was 8356.51. The balance-sheet also shows that the Canterbury Rugby League has advanced 850,000 to the Agriculture and Pastoral Association for the development of the Show Grounds.
In his annual report the chairman of the board of control (Mr D. C. Wilson) says that the season “which promised much in the opening
games ended rather disappointingly” when the Canterbury senior team won its first three matches and then lost its final four games. The senior championship could be claimed as one of the most interesting for many years because of the Australian system of finals leading to the grand final, the report says.
The crowd of 3000 at the grand final was larger than some representative attendances, and several attendances at club matches were the largest for many years.
