Line Fault Not Found
The location of a flash-over, which caused line switches to trip and created fluctuations in the power supply to Christchurch just before noon on Saturday, had not been found in spite of a thorough patrol of the line between Roxburgh and the Livingstone sub-sta-tion, on the south bank of the Waitaki River, the Electricity Department’s district engineer in Christchurch (Mr R S. S. Meredith) said yesterday. The flash-over caused the line switches, at Roxburgh and Livingstone to open automatically. After a few minutes the switches were closed manually and the line was put back into use.
While this was happening there was some fluctuation in the power supply but no loss in any area, said Mr Meredith
Just after the switches were tripped the Highbank and Cobb River power stations tripped off automatically and were closed manually. The department had enough generators running to absorb the fluctuations with no damage being done, said Mr Meredith.
