Improved Run Gives Roman Consul Win
(N.Z. Press Association) . PAEROA. Roman Consul, after coping with strong challenges from Dee Dee and Second Sight In the last furlong, won the Paeroa Cup, first leg of the T.A.B. double on the second day of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club's autumn meeting at Paeroa on Saturday. The win was not well received by a small section of the crowd because on the first day Roman Consul ran a moderate fifth. However, in that race he received a severe check half a mile from home. Second Sight was second and Styx outfinished Dee Dee for third. The second leg, the St Patrick’s Handicap, was convincingly won by Dashing Lu, which led nearly all the way. Even One was second and Chino third. Results— WAITEKAURI HIGH-WRIGHT $800; Ilf. 1/1 FOXTON (5) 9-4 R. J. Leggett 1 2/2 LLANACR (1) 10-4 W. H. Short 2 5/6 DILLY DALLY (7) 9-1 G. M.
