EXPO 70 PLANS

N.Z. Budget Of 52.5 m (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 17. New Zealand’s participation in Expo 70—the world exposition to be held in Japan in 1970—will be financed on a $2.5m budget The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) announced Cabinet approval for the budget yesterday. Mr Marshall said the work of planning and organising the New Zealand pavilion had begun, and a commission had been appointed to advise the Government and guide planning. The world exposition will be held in Osaka from March to September, 1970, and its central theme will be “progress and harmony for mankind.”

“In the context of the central theme, we will be able to demonstrate New Zealand’s capacity as a producer of food for a hungry world, and this will be related to our important and growing trade with Japan and our expanding farming and manufacturing industries,” said Mr Marshall.

“The broad concepts of our way of life, our social experiments, our artistic, cultural and sporting interests will have to be presented with good taste and integrity.”
