Pirate Broadcasts In March Doubtful
It is doubtful if the Canterbury pirate radio station, Radio Pegasus, will begin broadcasting on March 30 as previously announced.
“Although we have ample finance in hand, we still have not been able to obtain a suitable ship,” said Mr S. Lawson, the chief technician for the venture, yesterday. “We are still negotiating for
a ship which has not been in use for the last 18 months. If we can persuade the owner to sell, we will be able to begin broadcasting,” Mr Lawson said. It would take about four days to fit the ship with the radio equipment. “One of the unfortunate aspects about not being able to stick to our deadline is the possibility that we may lose four advertising contracts which were due from April 1,” he said. Final testing of equipment would be done and another test broadcast would be made within the next week, he said.
