NEW PROCESS FOR HAMERSLEY

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, March 13.

Hamersley H o 1 d i n g s’ chairman (Sir Maurice Mawby) announced a “novel and exciting raw material for the world’s iron and steel industry.” He told the company’s annual meeting in Melbourne that Hamersley, the Western Australia iron ore producer, would make this product “which is likely to have a sig-

nificant impact on future steel-making technology.” Sir Maurice Mawby said the new product was called “metallised agglomerates.” The board had decided to proceed with the manufacture of these agglomerates for use in direct steel production, subject to satisfactory sales and finance arrangements. The products which the company hoped to manufacture would be a uniformly sized and chemically consistent material of high metallic iron content.

“We believe this plant will herald a rapid development throughout the world of this type of processing of iron ore."
