Young Writers 9 Award

The South Island Writers’ Association will make an annual award to young New Zealand writers, for literary work.

The annual meeting of the association, held in the Workers’ Educational Association rooms last evening, decided that the terms of the award would be announced at the end of the Pan Pacific Arts Festival.

The acting-president (Mr R. A. Evans) said that the week-end writers’ school held in Christchurch recently was such a success that the ipcome should be invested, ah'd the interest used for an annual award for young people. Age limits, topics, the

amount of the award, and the type of literary work to be presented, were discussed and referred to the committee.

Members expressed regret that no literary subjects were represented in the Pan Pacific Arts Festival. Mr Evans said that before the next festival the association would approach the festival committee for representation on behalf of all writers.
