Boost For Rugby

'T’HE decision of the Canterbury Rugby Union to invite a Fijian Rugby team to play two games in Christchurch before the start of the club season should give a boost to local Rugby. Last year a crowd of more than 16,000 watched the Barbarians play the Cantabrians at Lancaster Park, and there is no reason why the Fijians, whose Rugby can be as exciting and unorthodox as their cricket, should not command the same support The Canterbury Rugby team played some very good Rugby last year—probably it was the most entertaining provincial side on display. The main match at Lancaster Park between Fiji and Canterbury, particularly as the five Canterbury players who toured Britain and France are expected to be playing, should whet the appetite for club Rugby.
