Trial Shipment Of Otago Copper Ore

(N.Z. Press Association; DUNEDIN, March 11.

Thirty tons of copper ore from the Moke Creek mine, near Queenstown, will be shipped from Dunedin this week to overseas markets. The trial shipment, being undertaken by a Dunedinbased company, Bal Metals, Ltd, Kaikorai Valley, is the first effort to sell the ore overseas since drilling began in 1966.

Only a week ago the company formed to mine the ore, New Zealand Mineral Developments, Ltd, of Christ-

church, decided at its annual meeting to spend its last few thousand dollars of finance in trying to prove the deposit. The sale of the 300 tons of stockpiled ore has meant the company can renew efforts at the mine.

The managing director of Bal Metals (Mr K. H. Osborne) said that his company was anxious that the mining at Moke Creek should continue.

Mr Osborne would not disclose the destination of the ore or the payment made by his company. He did say that an interim payment to the development company was sufficient to enable them to carry out extensive diamond drilling.
