Allied Push Near Saigon

SAIGON, March 12.

American and Australian forces have launched a new offensive in the Hau NghiaLong An and Phuoc Tuy areas to the north-west and east of Saigon. On the northern battlefront, American troops reported killing 78 North Vietnamese yesterday for the loss of two men dead and 29 wounded in a 7}-hour battle 14 miles west of the city of Tam Ky.

A South Vietnamese Government spokesman said Viet Cong sheled the city of Phuoc Binh, 90 miles north of SaiCong shelled the city of Phuoc and again this morning, missing military installations but killing one civilian and wounding another.
