3.3 Vauxhall Ventora
>/k NEW model called the “ Ventora has been announced in Britain by Vauxhall. Basically it is the Victor body-shell fitted with the
3.3-litre, six-cylinder engine used in the Vauxhall Cresta models.
The engine produces 140 b.h.p. and although the Vic-' tor’s suspension system of eoil-springs on all wheels, with independent suspension at the front and locating links at the rear is retained, spring rates and damper settings have been altered. Radialply tyres are a standard fitting.
A four-speed, all synchromesh gearbox with floorchange is standard, and an overdrive is optional. Customers can specify the Powerglide automatic transmission. The brakes are discs at the front and drums at the rear, and power-assistance is standard. The handbrake lever is positioned between the individual front seats, and a central console houses the gearlever or transmission selector, and the switches for the wipers, screen-washer and lights.
There is a lockable glove compartment immediately above the console, and there are face-level fresh-air vents at either end of the fascia. The car has rear extractor vents, and the heater ducting is arranged to carry warm air to both front and rear compartments. The car has a full range of instruments, including a tachometer. Safety features include considerable interior padding, an energy-absorbing steering column, and antiburst door locks. Front seat belts are standard. An alternator is a standard fitting, and options include reclining seats, heater rear window and black vinyl roofcovering.
In New Zealand the Ventora will be available only with overseas funds, and the manual car will cost $3234 (£7OB sterling deposit), while the automatic car will cost $234 extra, the sterling deposit being higher at £762.
