Outstanding Swims By J. Tillson

J. Tillson broke two records in the intermediate championship and won the open 440 yards freestyle event at the Christchurch Boys’ High School swimming sports at the school pool yesterday. He beat the senior champion, R. M. S. Johnston, to win the 440 yards event, but the time was 18.2 seconds outside A. B. Kindred’s record set last year. Tillson clipped 1.2 seconds off the 220 yards intermediate freestyle time set by G. R. Stringer in 1962 and later he broke the 100 yards backstroke record set by Kindred in 1966 by 1.3 seconds. J. C. Edmonds broke his own record in the senior 100 yards breaststroke by 1.2 seconds in a fine swim. In the under-14 section, G. A. J. Paterson broke two records.

He clocked Imin 6.2 sec In the 100 yards freestyle after having earlier set a new record for the 33 1-3 yards freestyle of 18.5 sec. The sixth record of the day was set by R.
