Buyers Overlooking See-Through Blouses
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, Mar. 4.
Fashion-conscious American girls are unlikely to adopt the Parisian no-bras-siere, sheer blouses.
This is the forecast of American fashion buyers whose job is to anticipate what the average girl is prepared to wear. They are almost unanimous in dismissing it as nothing more than a headline-catching gimmick which will probably live the same brief life of notoriety as the topless swimsuit. •
The result of a survey made by “Women’s Wear Daily,” the bible of the American fashion industry, was announced under the headline: “Nude look pronounced dead on arrival.”
Among the few dissenters was a Los Angeles buyer who said the see-through blouse fashion was fun. “H's something to talk about. It keeps business stimulated, even if a handful go for it”
Most shops are expecting the Paris craze, partly inspired by Faye Dunaway’s bra-less look in the 19305-style film, “Bonnie and Clyde,” to have some influence on fashions.
They are ordering large supplies of flesh-coloured underwear and body stockings in the expectation that many American women will soon want to compromise between their bust-boosting bras and none.
