HANDY HINTS

Cheese Batter.—When making pineapple fritters next time, try adding 4oz of grated Cheddar cheese to 4oz of flour before mixing with water. The batter will complement the flavour of the pineapple. Baked Mushrooms.— Try baking mushrooms wrapped in foil. Brush the foil with butter, pack in the peeled and trimmed mushrooms and bake in a medium oven for about 15 minutes. Open foil to test if the mushrooms are cooked. If not, leave in the oven a little longer.

Dress Into Petticoat.— When the sleeves become too tight in a child’s dress, cut them out, make the armholes bigger and edge with narrow lace. This is a quick way of making a petticoat from an outgrown pastel-shaded dress.
