Park Rights For Lovers

(N.Z. P.A.-Reuter) SINGAPORE. The right of young lovers to go to the public parks at night was defended in a Parliamentary debate by Mr Chan Chee Seng, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Social Affairs. The debate was on a proposal to extend the closing hour of Botanic Gardens from the present 7 p.m. Mrs Chan Choy Siong, a woman member, criticised the proposal, saying that the activities of courting couples in the gardens late at night would distract other visitors, and also the many students who went there to study botany. But Mr Chan retorted that it was only right for young couples to go through the stage of courting in the park.
