Obituary MR J. WILSON
A distinguished graduate of the engineering department of the University of Canterbury, who was an authority on electric power transmission, died recently in Sydney. He was Mr James Wilson who was awarded an exhibition scholarship by the General Electric Company in 1926 He spent two years with the firm at Birmingham, and an other year with the Westing house company at Pittsburgh in the United States.
After returning to New Zealand, Mr Wilson worked with the Ministry of Works for a time on the construction of the Waitaki hydro-electric station. Later he joined a private firm in Christchurch In 1935 Mr Wilson accepted an appointment with Callender’s Cable and Construction Company in Ceylon. Four years later he joined the New South Wales Electricity Commission. He became a senior engineer and retired last year. Mr Wilson read papers at several international conferences of engineers in Asia, Australia and Europe. After his retirement he was engaged as a consultant by the Administration in New Guinea. He made extensive journeys in that country while preparing a report on electric power development there.
