ADDICTED TO SOLVENTS

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)

MELBOURNE, March 5.

A 15-year-old chemical works employee drowned in a five-gallon bucket of hydrocarbon solvent after becoming addicted to it, the Melbourne City Coroner (Mr H. W. Pascoe) found today. The court was told that the youth, Carl Byram, was found lying with his knees tucked into his chest and his head half in a bucket of X 55 solvent in a storeroom at the Beta chemical works on October 18.

Neville James Rigby, a foreman at the plant, told the court that Byram had been in the habit of sniffing solvents.
