FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —A ridge of high pressure extends over the North Island from the east; a cold front is moving slowly north-east over the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury. Moderate southerlies spreading northwards during the day; cloudy skies and areas of rain; rather cool. Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh to strong north-westerlies slowly decreasing; cloudy and warm with scattered rain in western parts of Nelson spreading to other areas tonight. Buller and Westland.
