PROVINCIAL CHAMBERS
Proposal For Inspection A proposal that the Provincial Council Chambers be open for Inspection at. Weekends was discussed by members ofi the board of control, consisting of five members of Parliament, and members of the Christchurch Civic Trust, reported Mrs W. S. Mac Gibbon to a meeting of the trust board. The meeting had been cordial and it bad been suggested that rather than pay the custodian overtime rates, the services of an elderly person or a student be obtained. The board of control had been receptive to the idea of restoring the original fireplaces by taking away the bricks that were there and adding brass canopies to overcome the draught problem, Mrs Mac Gibbon said. This was much better than blocking the fireplaces with stone which was planned. A report on the trust’s suggestions would be sent to the board of control.
