RACING Riccarton Horses Are Form Runners

Shipmaster, Pretentious, and Red Chips, winners on their home course at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting, will be expected to spearhead Riccarton’s team on the first day of the Wellington autumn meeting at Trentham on Saturday.

They gave reassuring evidence of their fitness for Trentham campaigns with good gallops on the outside of the course proper at Riccarton yesterday.

Pretentious was going very keenly for D. R. Tucker alongside Razzamatazz (B. Felling) and iust ahead of Pango (R. K. Moir) after running seven furlongs in 1:33 4-5, the last half-mile in 53 4-5. Pretentious won over seven furlongs in the style of a stayer on the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s summer meeting. He will be tried at 11 furlongs in the Sil verstream Intermediate Handicap on Saturday. With 7-8 he could be a formidable opponent for the best of the others. Solo Trial Shipmaster’s semi-final gallop for the Tinakori Intermediate Handicap at Trentham was seven furlongs in Imin 32 2-ssec, the last halfmile in 51sec. Although the footing was firm and conditions ideal, he was wide around two turns, and it was a creditable solo gallop. The handy size of the Tinakori Handicap field will help Shipmaster. Red Chips (G. Gullery) easily out-finished Mister Bud (D. R. Tucker) to win their six-furlong trial by three lengths in Imin 18 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 51 2-ssec. Red Chips, a highly consistent sprinter, will face his toughest test of the year in the Railway Handicap at ■ Trentham as a last-start winner on his home course. Partner (Tucker) and Julmark (A. H. Eastwood) were on terms clear of Submerge (Mein) after running a mile in Imin 50 4-ssec. They did not work up much pace for the first half-mile, but spurted home in 52sec.

Not Hurried Listening Post (F. H. Skelton), Warm Up (Taggart), and David William (Hadfield) ran their mile easily in Imin 50 l-ssec. the last half in 54 3-ssec. Warm Up, a double acceptor at Motukarara. will run in the Peninsula Handi, cap. Gee Tee (Gullery) end Flower Girl (Moir) sprinted six furlongs on terms in Imin 21 l-ssec, the last half-mile in 53 3-5 sec. Beit Meri (Gullery) and Port Bank (M. J. Skelton) recorded Imin 19 l-ssec for six furlongs, and 52 4-ssec for the last half-mile. The former northerner, Beit Meri, will have her first start from C. McDonald’s stable in the Ahu-

after running seven furlongs in Imin 28sec, the last halfmile in 50sec, the final three furlongs in 37 l-ssec. Millie Small’s effort did not suffer by comparison with those of her companions. Roman General (F. Skelton) dashed over six furlongs in Imin 16 4-ssec, and was keen to continue. He was taken north last evening and will be quartered at Otaki until Saturday, when he will race at Trentham. Roman General’s stablemate Tumble (Gullery) ran five furlongs in Imin ssec, the last four in 51sec. He may race on the second day at Trentham if he shows he is in form against the sprinters at Motukarara on Saturday. Standard Time (G. Jackson) shaped well for a hack to run seven furlongs in Imin 29 4-ssec, the final three in 39 3-ssec. He was joined for the final three by Ronray (Beck), and they were on term:, at the end. Agrippa (Cowles) sprinted half a mile in 52 2-ssec, and tbe final three furlongs in 38 3-ssec. One of his best runs would make him a strong challenger for sprint honours at Motukarara. Cattegat (Swanson) and Running Waters (C. Kerkvliet) sprinted six furlongs in Imin 20sec, the last half-mile in 51 3-ssec.

riri Hack Handicap at Motukarara. Pic-a-Deck (Clark) was easing short of the post, but completed six furlongs in Imin 20 l-ssec. She is a form runner for the Ahuriri Hack Handicap at Motukarara. Why Harp (Reuben) led Bigoted (M. J. Skelton) by a length and half finishing half a mile in 50 3-ssec. It was a smart sprint for lowei grade performers. Equal Chance (Mein) was showing just ahead of Bright Blue (P. Thistoll), Allspice (P. McCann), and Campo Star (M. Skelton) ending half a mile in 52 4-ssec. Equal Chance was placed in three of his four starts in the spring, and he is well forward for a fresh start in the Bradley Handicap at Motukarara. Three rival candidates , for the Peninsula Handicap at Motukarara were matched in one of the best trials of the morning on the plough. Kalimera (C. Kerkvliet) and Sir Limond (Gullerv) were abreast about a length clear of Millie Small (Tucker)
