CHURCH MOVE

Plan To End War

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright)

SYDNEY, Feb. 26.

The Australian Council of Churches has resolved to put to the Federal Government a five-point plan aimed at ending the war in Vietnam. The points to be suggested are:—

Cessation of bombing of North Vietnam.

Recognition of the National Liberation Front as a body with which to open negotiations.

Confinement of the ground war to the holding of secure areas until a military agreement for the withdrawal of all foreign troops is confirmed. Exploration of all areas of negotiation to facilitate such troop withdrawals and the holding of elections undet United Nations supervision. Efforts to bring social justice to the Vietnamese people by such measures as land reform. The council decided to send a deputation of church leaders to tell the Prime Minister, Mr Gorton, of the churches’ concern about the Vietnam war. /
