Market Still Firm On Lower Turnovers
Rises outnumbered falls by more than three to one when trading opened on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. The range of movements was narrow and turnovers lower than on Friday.
Breweries continued their recent firm trend. Dominion Breweries rose 1c to 170 c. a rise of 9c In a week, while N.Z. Breweries gained 2c a rise of 7c since the previous Monday. N.Z. Farmers’ Fertiliser, which had eased to 248 c at the beginning of February, rose another 5c to 265 c in a Wellington sale. Wright,
Stephenson gained 2c to 113 c, a rise of 5c since February 14. Some shares that have advanced recently slipped back yesterday. N.Z. Steel, which had risen to 66c last week, lost 1c to 59c In Auckland. :
N.Z. Refining shed 3c to 530 c, while Skellerup lost 5c to 530 c. In the overseas section the trend was easier. B.H.P. shed 55c to 1835 c and Mount Isa 30c to 500 c.
