FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A large anticyclone covers most of New Zealand, pressures are low south-east of the South Island. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds at first; moderate north-easterlies later about the coast with freshening north-westerlies inland, fine; remaining very warm inland but temperatures lower at times about the coast.

Marlborough. North-west winds, strong at times in exposed areas; otherwise winds moderate and variable; fine and warm.

Buller and Nelson. —Moderate variable winds, fine and warm.

Westland. Moderate variable winds; partly cloudy weather at first; scattered rain developing in the south in the afternoon and later spreading northwards; mild.
