PLANNING IN AUCKLAND
Completion Of Review (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 8. The Auckland City Council's review of the district scheme —believed to be the biggest town-planning task undertaken in New Zealand—was recommended for approval by the council at a meeting tonight. The review, which will, in time, affect most of the 150,000 citizens in the area, has taken eight planning officers, draughtsmen, printers, a sub-committee and the council’s town planning committee between 18 months and two years.
Thousands of hours of work are summed up in two bulky documents —the scheme statement and the code of ordinances—and 56 maps. The scheme statement says it is an attempt to provide the necessary means for guiding the efficient, economic and harmonious development of the city for the next 20 years. The biggest changes concern residential zoning and controls.
