Australian Pacers Run Fast Trial
"The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. The four Australian pacers based at Alexandra Park, Binshaw, Blue Pennant, First Lee, and Cardinal Bruce, showed their fitness for the Inter-Domin-ion Championships when they worked brilliantly over 13 furlongs yesterday. Binshaw. was a length in front of Blue Pennant at the finish, with Cardinal Bruce and First Lee close up, in 3min 29 3-ssec. Blue Pennant tangled at the start and the others went at a slack speed until he settled down. The first furlong took 20sec. Once into his stride, Blue Pennant rushed to the front and he carried on at a hectic clip. The last mile and a half was done in 3min 9 3-ssec, and the last half-mile in 59 3-ssec. All their trainers were very pleased with the way the horses went. B Stocks, the trainer-driver of Cardinal Bruce, said his horse was a lazy trackworker. “A run like that will do him good.” The Victorian trotter, My Lesson, went stylishly over a mile and a half in 3min 12 3-ssec the last half in Imin 0 3-ssec. He has the reputation of being a better stayer than sprinter but on yesterday’s showing he is going to
