Woman Can Fly Jets
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 7. A 31-year-old former children’s nanny yesterday became Britain’s first woman pilot qualified to captain giant passenger jets. Miss Gillian Cazalet, of Folkstone, Kent, secured a licence entitling her to take charge of any type of aircraft, from a tiny Auster to a VCIO. She is a first officer employed by Skyways Company and has been flying since she was 20. To help pay her way after having her first flying lessons, she worked as a mother’s help, cook, housekeeper, and petrol-pump attendant “It’s been a bit of a struggle but I’m delighted to be the

Captain Rex Tapley, Skyway’s chief pilot, said the licence *’is the highest proficiency licence any pilot can get Gillian is as goor as any man as a pilot and in six months time, after she has served as a senior first officer she will be promoted to captain.”
