The surf-boards are made of fibre-glass with polyurethane, a type of plastic foam, at the core. The boards cost $lOO in New Zealand but are being sold for $6O to Peru where the eventual sale price will be between $l5O-$2OO. “We expect that we can sell at least 100 boards in the next few omnths,” said Mr D. Quane, a director of the firm. The firm had previously sent a few surf-boards to Australia, but this was its first real atnext few months,” said Mr D. tempt to export, he said. From what he had seen of Australian and American surf-boards he considered his were of better quality. Two of the surf-boards sent had been made to specifications for one of the leading Peruvian surfers. The six sent were the first of an initial order Of 12 surf-boards. “An Italian firm represented at the fair has shown great interest,” said Mr Quane, “and we are sending a few boards to a trade fair in Italy in a few months. “We also gained 40 orders for Tahiti that will have to be airfreighted,” he said.
