Thai Troops’ Claim

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) BANGKOK, February 6. Thai troops have killed 251 Communist terrorists in just over two years of increasingly heavy fighting, according to Thailand’s Prime Minister (Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn). Speaking at his weekly press conference, he said that since December, 1966, 2308 terrorists had been captured and a further 2135 had surrendered.

Government casualties have not been announced, but more than 300 are believed to have been killed. The Prime Minister said that in recent military operations which had tied down two battalions of Thailand’s crack 3rd Army, a battalionsized Communist force had been forced back across the border into Laos.

Strikes by napalm-carrying T2B aircraft of the Royal Thai Air Force had forced the terrorists to flee.
