Interesting Round In Water Polo

The brilliant play of the leading Canterbury goalkeepers. I. S. Farquhar (Wharenui) and B. G. Spear (Univeraity). made the twelfth round of the senior water polo competition one of the most interesting ao far.

Spear had only five players supporting him after a teammate had been ordered from the water for the second half, and his saves and the ensuing attacks contributed largely to the failure of Beckenham to overcome a four-goal deficit. Farquhar's fine saves helped to avoid the defeat of the secondplaeed Wharenui. Results:—

University 4 (I. L. Gonthorp 2, W. R. Williamson), Beckenham 1 (L. D. Mclntosh). Christchurch S (P. K. Hatchwell 2, J. Turpin, W. Newton, C. Reid), Services 2 (G. Mitchell 2).

Wharenui S (T. H. HcGlrr 2, R, B. Erickson 2, R. A. Leach), Blmwood 1 (N. Chamberlain). Christchurch beat Services mainly by taking greater advantage of poor passing than its opponent. In the University-Beckenham match, the students, tour goals up when forced to slow the game because of the one-man shortage, managed to keen Beckenham out and also attack strohgly when they regained possession.
