Farm Hydatids Testing In Malvern County

Results had not improved over the last few years, said the hydatids inspector (Mr D. Priest), reporting to the Malvern County Council that he was preparing to change from strip to farm-ho-farm dosing. In the last six rounds on the strips, 8531 samples had shown 68 cases of true and 332 cases of false hydatids, said Mr Priest.

The National Hydatids Council had approved farm-to-farm dosing, which would let him tell farmers how they could improve the position. Township dogs would be dosed once a year, on strips. Mr Priest said he did not expect an immediate improvement, but results should be better after a year of the new system.

New Offices.—April 5 was tentatively fixed for the opening of the new council offices. A tender of 32300 was accepted for furnishings. Water-ski-ing.—Lake Georgina was exempted from the motor-launch regulations to allow water-ski-ing between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. for learn-

|ers. Mr M. R. Murchison was appointed honorary warden. | Reading.—Plans to seal 21} i miles of county road in 1968-69 were approved at an estimated cost of $90,130, with Tawera Road work to be decided later. The $lB,OOO allocation would allow of three miles and a half of sealing.

Water Test.—Water from the well in the Waimakariri riverbed for the proposed Darfield water supply was of good potable quality, but was slightly acid and needed aeration, stated the Health Department. Traffic Fees.—The Clerk (Mr B. W. Perrin) said that the council hoped to get authority from April 1 to issue-heavy traffic fees to about 250 motor-trucks in the county whose owners now paid the fees to the Christchurch City Council. Inspector.—To a request from the council for a traffic inspector to be based at Darfield, the Transport Department said consideration would be given when staffing was reviewed later this year.
