APPEAL WON
Lissom Lad Relegated (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. An appeal by Mr J. M. McCulloch, the Dunedin stipendary steward, against the decision of the judicial committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club in respect of the Trial Stakes on the first day of the club’s cup meeting on December 23, was upheld by the Dunedin District Committee in Dunedin yesterday.
As a result of the district committee’s decision, Lissom Lad, which was first past the post in the Trial Stakes, was relegated to third. Sea Belle, which finished second, was promoted to first, and High Sierra was promoted to second.
At the original inquiry, T. P. Brown, the rider of Lissom Lad, was charged with interference by allowing his mount to move in over the concluding stages, hampering High Sierra and Sea Belle. Brown was found guilty and fined $25. Mr McCulloch’s appeal said that because the penalty on Brown had established that interference had taken place, and because the margins between the placed horses had been only a head and a nose, Lissom Lad should have been relegated to a place behind the horses affected by the interference. Members of the Dunedin District Committee who heard the appeal are Messrs R. C. B. Greenslade (chairman), R. W. P. Cameron, F. J. Donnelly, R. G. Gilbert, W. H. Jolly, J. J. Morris, J. C. Muirhead, G. Metzger, D. D. McPherson, D. McCulloch, and T. K. S. Sidey.
