Fast 50 By Pollard

(N.Z. Press Association > •PALMERSTON NORTH. V. Pollard, the New Zealand vice-captain, showed the Fijians the way to score in the first day of their two-day fixture with Manawatu at Palmerston North yesterday. Fiji opened the batting and scored 219. with the opening batsman. H Apted, scoring a good 107. The rest of the Fijian batsmen failed to make much impression and it was Pollard who excited the Urge afternoon crowd. He scored 55 runs in 28 minutes, including two sixes, one off B. Heibner and one off N. Uluiviti, and six fours. He was finally caught right on the boundary by Apted when trying to lift another six off Uluiviti. Manawatu finished at 311 for seven declared and Fiji was 21 without loss in its second innings.
