Drinking Bout Proved Fatal

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CALCUTTA, Jan. 26. Fifty persons, including five women, died of alcoholic poisoning after drinking illicit liquor bought from a bootlegger in a Calcutta slum, according to the Calcutta police. They say more than 60 people who took part in a drinking session became ill when they returned home, but two of the dead were picked up in the road. At least 12 persons are reported to be seriously ill in hospital. The police have arrested four persons, including the bootlegger, and have found 65 gallons of Illicit liquor stored in football bladders.
