TARIFF AND DEVELOPMENT BOARD NOTICE No. 62 NEW ZEALAND AUSTRALIA FREE TRADE AGREEMENT 1. In ACCORDANCE with the intention to take the necessary action, expressed in letters of August 31, 1965, exchanged between the Minister of Overseas Trade and the High Commissioner for Australia in New Zealand in association with the New Zealand-Australia Free Trade Agreement, the Minister has requested the Tariff and Development Board to consider and to report to him on the question of elimination of the margins by which the rates of duty at present applicable to certain goods imported into New Zealand from Australia exceed those applicable to goods in the same tariff item imported from other countries. 2. The Board understands that the action which may be taken need not necessarily be confined to a reduction of the rates applicable to the Australian goods concerned but may involve rates applicable to goods imported from other countries. 3. It is the intention of the Board to consider blocks of items from time to time and to give public notice thereof. The Board intends to consider initially the items listed in the Schedule in Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 61 published in the New Zealand Gazette on Thursday January 25, 1968. Copies of Notice No. 61 may be obtained on request from the undernamed. 4. If no representations are received to the contrary in respect of the items listed in, the Schedule in Notice No. 61, the Board proposes to recommend that the rates on such Australian goods be reduced to the level of the present British Preferential Tariff rates. Where the margin exceeds 5 per cent ad val this will not necessarily be eliminated in one stage but may be phased out over a period. 5. Interested parties should note that regarding the items listed in the Schedule in Notice No. 61, the Board’s considerations are not related to the inclusion or otherwise of such items in Schedule A of the New ZealandAustralia Free Trade Agreement. The annual reviews in this respect are subject to separate notification and consideration by the Board. 6. Any persons or firms desiring to make representations regarding any item or items should send their representation (10 copies of a typewritten statement respecting each item) to the undernamed at the address shown hereunder not later than April 1, 1968. 7. Dated at Wellington this 25th day of January, 1968. P A. T. ABRAHAM, Secretary. Tariff and Development Board. PO BOX 5070, WELLINGTON 9580
