(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. By just about running his opponent off his feet, the seventh seted in the Auckland lawn tennis championships, D. Simmonds, beat the fourthranked singles player, J. Lockington, yesterday. Simmonds reached the semi-finals with a 6-1, 0-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over the other Aucklander. Results: Men's Singles Quarter-finals.—H. Broun beat J. Mitchell (Canterbury), 8-10, 6-1, 6-1, 6-4; D. Simmonds beat J. Lockington, 6-1, 0-6, 6-3, 6-0; D. Shaw beat R. Keenan, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5; R. Hawkes beat K. Long 6-3, 7-5, 10-12, 6-3. Women's Singles Quarter-finals.—Miss P. Stevens (Northland) beat Miss K. O’Neill, 6-0, 6-1; Mrs E. Stephen beat Miss S. Marchant (Australia), 6-2, 6-4; Miss J. Bloxham (Bay of Plenty) beat Miss C. Fleming, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3; Miss B. Vercoe beat Mrs T. Singer, 6-0, 6-2.
