CLIMAX OF CAREER

A. F. Wright, the strength of North Canterbury cricket since the area formed a minor association six years ago, reached the climax of his long career in the match against Fiji yesterday. From the first ball of North Canterbury’s second innings, Wright hit a four to take his total to 1002 for the team. He is the first player to achieve this milestone. Before the match, Wright was eight short of his 1000, and he was out for six in the first innings. In the Fiji second innings, A. F. Rapley followed R. C. Merrin in becoming the second to take 100 wickets for North Canterbury. Rapley started the match with 93 wickets, took six in the first innings, and reached his century of wickets with the third ball of Fiji's second innings.
