Aust. Olympic Team Manager
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Mr J. L. Patching has been appointed general-manager of the Australian Olympic Games team to Mexico. Mr Patching, aged 51, the Melbourne City Council’s recreation supervisor, said yesterday he was confident that there would not be a repetition of the furore after the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He hoped the new administration would have a deeper and closer relationship with team members. Mr Patching was the assistant general-manager of the Australian team at the Tokyo Games and managed the athletics team to Rome in 1960. The Olympic gold medallist, Mrs S. de la Huntly, formerly Miss Shirley Strickland, and Mrs R. Robinson, were chosen as the women’s assistant managers.
